A true orange wine of time and patience, partly in barrel but mostly locked up in tank on skins for 6 months, meandering well into the savoury realm that these wines want to take you. All about the herbal notes and Earl Grey Tea wrapped in delicate tannins. The second iteration of this wine and somewhat fresher this year. Uplifting and more racy in its lightness. Still the same chewy softness that makes it so worth the wait. The slow road never looked so good.
A red wine with sexy white wine aromatics, Shiraz pressed though the skins of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, blended together with portions of its white counterparts too. Chewy as that sounds, the result is a fridge-worthy red cosplaying as a spicy rosato. All in neutral French oak hogsheads, playing around with select parcels of the year for a snapshot of the 2022 vintage. Super bright and iridescent in the glass, strawberry and rhubarb on the nose, with vanilla, clove and exotic spices in the mouth. Looks good with a decent chill. Actually, don’t be shy to smash it straight from the ice bucket alongside the whites. That’s what we do.
Got Lost Shiraz/Grenache Kaurna (McLaren Vale)
A pairing as they should be, but not as they always are. Shiraz so close to the beach you can see the waves through the valley, and Grenache from higher up a sea-breeze-kissed hill, where it’s certified organic and was planted in the 1940s. Pretty plums and thyme notes with shimmering brightness. A proper red wine but so savoury and light on its feet, tension and detail that keeps it cool and moreish. So easy to love and get lost in.
